Scholarship Opportunities

Randolph Telephone has designed the following scholarship opportunities to be "an investment in the future growth, development, and well-being of our member/subscriber families and the community." Our company's commitment to our customers and the communities we serve extends far beyond the telecom area. Randolph Telephone's Directors, management, and staff have maintained their resolve to be active corporate citizens in the counties the co-op serves, to stay involved in local community affairs, and to target contribution dollars to a variety of worthwhile civic and charitable causes.

FRS Scholarship Program

Purpose of the FRS Scholarship Program

Randolph Telephone partners with the Foundationa for Rural Service (FRS) to present a scholarship for the benefit of Randolph Telephone families within its service area as a means of encouraging young people in rural areas in their pursuit of learning and their efforts to improve the lives of themselves, their families, and their communities.

Qualifications of FRS Applicants

  1. Student's parent or legal guardian must maintain primary residence in the Randolph Telephone service area, and said parent or guardian is a Randolph Telephone member/subscriber in good standing with active service. (Residence telephone number prefixes in our service areas include 241, 381, 461, 464, 581, 857, 879 and 622.)
  2. Sudent must be a graduating senior and must be enrolled in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university, vocational or technical school.
  3. Student must have at least a C grade point average.
  4. Student must express an interest to work in a rural community following graduation.

General Scholarship Program

This year, Randolph Telephone will award seven scholarships, each in the amount of $1,000. There will be one scholarship awarded in each of our seven regions. If we do not receive any applications for a region then no scholarship will be awarded for that area.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be a dependent of a member or subscriber who is an active member of the cooperative and whose primary residence is located within the RTMC service area. (Residence prefixes for the service areas are: 241, 381, 461, 464, 581, 857, 879, and 622).
  • Applicant must be a graduating high school or home school senior who meets the entrance requirements for an accredited college or university.
  • Applicants meeting the above criteria will be eligible without regard to race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender or disability.

How to Apply

Along with a completed RTMC General Scholarship application, please provide the following:

  • Letter of Statement indicating why they should receive the scholarship and plans for the future.
  • 2 Letters of Recommendation- One Letter of Recommendation from a school leader and one Letter of Recommendation from a community leader.
  • Recent individual photo to be used for publication. (Please do not attach using staples or paperclip.)
  • One-page essay on what your future goals will bring to your community.
  • Copy of transcripts and SAT or ACT scores.
  • Summary of student’s achievements, honors and extracurricular activities.
  • Submit all application materials noted above to Randolph Telephone, Attn: Jennifer Strider, 3733 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, NC 27205 by deadline noted below.

When to Apply

  • Apply now. Complete scholarship applications must be completed and turned in to your High School Guidance Counselor and received at the RTMC office located at 3733 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, no later than April 2, 2015.

Award Procedures

  • Scholarships will be reviewed by a selected scholarship committee comprised of Randolph Telephone Board of Directors, the RTMC CEO & General Manager and the Marketing Department.
  • The scholarships will be paid for the benefit and use of the applicant directly to the college or university where the applicant has been accepted as a student or where the applicant is attending classes.
  • Recipients will be recognized in a press release announcing the scholarship winners.
  • An RTMC representative will recognize recipients at their school on awards day or at graduation if schedules permit.
  • Recipients will be recognized at the RTMC Annual Meeting that is held the second Saturday in August.
  • Randolph Telephone reserves the right to terminate the scholarship if the recipient fails to utilize the scholarship funds within one year of notification.
